All Ohio University departments and local Athens businesses are invited to participate in the 13th annual Paint the Town Green event, an OHIO Homecoming-themed decoration contest.
“Paint the Town Green was created to help promote OHIO pride throughout Homecoming Week, and also as a way to connect the University and the town of Athens,” said Katrina Heilmeier, associate director of campus relations for the Ohio University Alumni Association.
Sponsored by the Student Alumni Board and the Campus Involvement Center, Paint the Town Green encourages local organizations, businesses and OHIO departments to get in the Homecoming spirit by creatively decorating their offices and buildings in green and white.
During the competition, participants will also have the opportunity to collect canned food and change to support Pack the Pantry, a weeklong canned food drive for the Athens County Food Pantry taking place throughout Homecoming Week 2015.
University officials and Athens city representatives will judge each display on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and choose the victors based on categories like “Best Representation of the Theme,” “Best Window Display,” “Campus Cup,” “Chubb Cup,” and more.
All winners of this year’s competition will be published in COMPASS on Oct. 8th, and announced during both the Homecoming 2015 Yell Like Hell Pep Rally and the 2015 Bobcat Family Reunion parade. Winners will also be awarded special prizes, including plaques and/or trophies.
“Paint the Town Green is a unique way to show students and alumni the spirit of our campus and our community, while also helping to educate others about the needs in our community by raising funds and cans for the Athens County Food Pantry,” Heilmeier said.
Interested contestants must register for Paint the Town Green online and have all decorations completed by Monday, Oct. 5.
