O hio University’s 93rd Homecoming celebration will feature a week full of exciting activities guaranteed to get all OHIO students, alumni, faculty and friends pumped up with Bobcat pride for the OHIO vs. Miami game.

Homecoming Week 2015 will take place Oct. 5-11 and will highlight this year’s theme, “Same Bricks, Different Stories,” by sharing unique stories and memories from Bobcat Nation’s alumni.

“I love the whole experience and energy surrounding the events, starting with activities like Paint the Town Green and ending with the game on Saturday,” said Dawn Werry, senior director of external relations for the Ohio University Alumni Association. “There is always this great feeling of excitement and anticipation that is just exhilarating for students, faculty and alumni.”

This year’s Homecoming events will kick off on Monday, Oct. 5 with Paint the Town Green, an annual Homecoming-themed decorating contest with participants from both Athens businesses and OHIO offices and departments.

On Monday night, a free film screening of “The PhD Movie” will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, followed by a free screening of the sequel, “The PhD Movie 2,” at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, the classic OHIO Vernon R. Alden Library Archives Display will feature 20 tables complete with historic Bobcat materials representing the many different stories of OHIO’s distinctive past. The archives display will be available for viewing beginning on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Vernon R. Alden Library.

Other activities on Oct. 8 include an E.W. Scripps College of Communication Social Media Boot Camp at 9 a.m. in Schoonover Center 308, as well as the beloved “Yell Like Hell” pep rally beginning at 8:30 p.m. in the Baker University Center Parking Lot on the first floor. The pep rally will feature performances from the Marching 110 and other OHIO music groups. Free Homecoming mugs and hot drinks will be provided to all who attend.

Friday, Oct. 9 will be jam-packed with activities for the entire family, including a special Alumni Family Day beginning at 8:30 a.m., and a “National Coming Out Day SpeakOUt” at 11 a.m. in the Bobcat Student Lounge.

End your Friday night reliving great Bobcat memories by attending a historical hayride at The Ridges at 5 p.m., or by exploring your old residence hall at 6 p.m. Early registration is necessary for alumni wishing to attend the Residence Hall Viewings event.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, prepare for the big OHIO vs. Miami game by getting your Bobcat spirit and pride rolling at the Homecoming Parade. This year’s parade, which is sponsored by the University Program Council, will begin at 10 a.m. on Union Street and will feature fun floats, banners and displays representing the OHIO and Athens communities.

After the parade, don’t forget to grab some food and beverages, play some family-friendly games, and enjoy music and OHIO giveaways at the Bobcat Bash at Pepsi Tailgreat Park. The Bobcat Bash will begin at 2 p.m., just in time for the start of the Homecoming game, where the Bobcats will take on the Miami RedHocks inside Peden Stadium.

To end the weekend with a bang, the Student Alumni Board (SAB) will host an alumni brunch at Konneker Alumni Center, 52 University Terrace, at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11. All SAB alumni are welcome to celebrate the end of Homecoming week with refreshments and lawn games until 1:30 p.m.

“I think Homecoming is a such a wonderful time for storytelling and sharing, which is why the theme, ‘Same Bricks, Different Stories,’ is just perfect. We’re very excited to welcome back our amazing alumni and hear their many stories and memories while celebrating OHIO’s 93rd Homecoming,” Werry said.
